A note on "consumer health data"

Washington's My Health My Data Act treats information about a person's health or care needs as consumer health data and gives it special protection. When you use our matching quiz or contact us for help, some of what you share — such as the level of care needed, memory-care or dementia needs, mobility, and other conditions — is consumer health data. We treat it accordingly, and this policy is our consumer-health-data privacy policy under that Act.

Families never pay Dear Care Home, and we do not sell your consumer health data to anyone.

What we collect

We collect only what we need to help you, from you directly and (for basic website analytics) automatically:

Information you give us

• Contact details — your name, email, and (if you choose) phone number.
• Care needs — consumer health data — who care is for, the level of care, memory-care/dementia or other specialty needs, mobility and daily-living needs, timeline, and anything you type in the "anything else" field.
• Preferences — location you're looking in and how you expect to pay (for example, Medicaid or private pay).
• Homes you choose — which adult family homes you ask us to connect you with, or add to your list.

Information collected automatically

• Standard website and usage data — pages viewed, device and browser type, and similar analytics, collected through the cookies and tools described in section 8.

How we use it

• To find and show you licensed adult family homes that fit your needs.
• To have a real person (an advisor) follow up and help you shortlist and arrange tours.
• To contact you about your request, by the methods you've agreed to.
• With your separate permission, to connect you with homes that may have availability (see below).
• To operate, secure, and improve our website.

How and with whom we share it

We share your information with two kinds of third parties, and never for their own advertising:

• Licensed adult family homes and their operators — when you ask to be connected to a home, or give us permission to reach out on your behalf, we share your name, contact information, and the care needs you've described so the home can contact you about availability. We share with homes only after you've given the separate consent described below, and, where you've chosen specific homes, only those homes.
• Service providers that run our tools — companies that host our data and power our forms, email, and website analytics, acting on our instructions. Today these include our database and hosting providers (Supabase, Netlify), our email delivery provider (Resend), and website-analytics providers (Google Analytics/Google Tag Manager, Microsoft Clarity, and HumanBehavior). These providers may process limited information, including on pages where you enter care needs.

We do not sell your consumer health data, and we do not share it with data brokers or for third-party advertising. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect safety.

Consent — and how to withdraw it

Collecting your information to find matches and have an advisor help you is part of the service you're asking us for. Sharing your details with adult family homes is a separate step that we do only with your explicit, opt-in consent — the checkbox you'll see on our quiz and forms, which is never pre-checked and never bundled with anything else.

You can withdraw your consent at any time, and ask us to stop sharing your information with homes, by emailing hello@dearcarehome.com. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect sharing that already happened, but we'll stop any further sharing promptly.

Your rights

Under Washington's My Health My Data Act and our general commitment to you, you can:

• Know and access the consumer health data we've collected about you, and the third parties and affiliates we've shared it with.
• Withdraw consent to our collection and sharing of your consumer health data.
• Delete your consumer health data. When you ask, we'll delete it from our records and direct our service providers to do the same, except where we're legally required to keep it.

To exercise any of these, email hello@dearcarehome.com with "Privacy request" in the subject. We'll verify your request and respond within the timeframe the law requires (generally within 45 days, with one 45-day extension if needed). You won't be charged or penalized for exercising your rights, and you may appeal a denial by replying to our response.

How long we keep it & how we protect it

We keep your information only as long as needed to help you and for reasonable business and legal purposes, then delete or de-identify it. We restrict access to consumer health data to the people and providers who need it to serve you, and we require our providers to protect it and use it only on our instructions.

Cookies, analytics & children

We use cookies and similar technologies for basic analytics — to understand how the site is used and to improve it — through Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager, Microsoft Clarity, and HumanBehavior. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Our site is meant for adults arranging care and is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

Changes & how to reach us

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll post the updated version here with a new effective date and, where the law requires, obtain your consent before applying the change to information already collected.
